Former MP and press reform campaigner Evan Harris stood outside the High Court today with his legal team and friend Hugh Grant in support, to rebuke the alleged lies and cover ups by News Group Newspapers, The Sun and, specifically, Rebekah Brooks in an unprecedented attack on the Murdoch publishing group.
Harris’ wide-ranging statement attacked the alleged illegal attacks on himself and fellow former Liberal Democrat MP Simon Hughes, and the ensuing cover up.
In an unprecedented move, Harris not only named The Sun and Rebekah Brooks as being complicit in these illegal actions, but lifted the veil on why so many claimants in the ongoing phone hacking litigation are compelled to reach a settlement with the publisher, rather than going to trial: namely, to avoid financial ruin.
